West Virginia University Sees 68% Increase
in Giving Day Donations

For the West Virginia University (WVU) Foundation, the WVU Day of Giving has been a way for them to rally the “Mountaineer Nation” and focus their philanthropic spirit. The foundation also knew that, with the right combination of strategies and the giving platform, they could reach even greater fundraising heights with their Giving Day.  That’s why in 2020 they turned to RNL and their team of expert strategists who could map an approach for elevating their Day of Giving to an institution-wide effort that could drive major giving behavior. The partnership paid off and WVU continued to work with RNL, setting a new Day of Giving record in 2023 of $18.1 million.

As they approached their 2024 Day of Giving, WVU wanted to scale even greater heights. RNL partnered with the WVU Foundation to develop a comprehensive approach that would energize the entire Mountaineer Nation. To spread the word as far as possible, RNL provided full omnichannel support for the day through custom digital content, email, text, and direct mail. Harnessing the power of hourly challenges and participation gifts at the college, school, and unit levels created and sustained a WVU-spirited environment on social media. At the end of the day, their path, their plan, and their steady progress under the theme “Go above. Go beyond,” emphasizing the critical importance of private donations had brought WVU higher than ever.
