Anne Monroe, PhD

Dr. Anne Monroe has served in admissions and student services since 1997. Her areas of expertise include enrollment management, campus marketing, adult and transfer student enrollment, and student services such as advising, residential life, and counseling.

Previous campus experience

Before coming to RNL, Dr. Monroe served as the vice president for academic and student affairs at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. In this role she was responsible for all aspects of academic planning, student recruitment and retention, academic support services and institutional strategic planning. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Monroe served as the dean of student services at Northwestern Michigan College. Her responsibilities included admissions, financial aid, registration and records, advising, and career services, among others. She led the college’s enrollment management planning efforts, helping the institution shape diverse incoming classes comprised of traditional students, community education students, and business contact learners. She used a data-based approach for her planning, relying on data gathering and ongoing assessment to guide her decision making. While at NMC, Dr. Monroe also was responsible for oversight of financial aid awarding and the campus judicial affairs policies.

Previously, Dr. Monroe served as director of admissions at Alma College (MI), where she directed the recruitment and marketing efforts for the college. She developed key marketing messages and managed the content of the college’s print and electronic communications, including implementing a targeted and segmented communications plan. Before this position, Dr. Monroe was at Central Michigan University, serving as the director of admissions and enrollment management and the director of the Henry Ford Health System Student Center. At Central Michigan, she established two key offices, Admissions and Enrollment Management as well as Health Professions Student Services. She spearheaded the vision, mission, and strategic planning for admissions and advising at the college.

Publications, presentations, and education

Dr. Monroe has published articles on transfer students in The Community College Enterprise and has presented sessions at numerous regional and national conferences. She is a member of the American Association of College Registrar’s and Admissions Officers and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. She received her doctorate in education from Michigan State University and holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Central Michigan University.
