We are happy to announce that our First National High School Counselors and Their Role in College Planning Survey launched on Tuesday June 14, 2016.

This research project, which includes this survey, is a collaboration of Ruffalo Noel Levitz, the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and Campus ESP.

It is evident that college and career readiness efforts require systemic involvement from many different people and research is needed to understand the roles that various individuals play. This study will shed light on how colleges and universities can help high school counselors improve their college planning functions.

Some questions we are hoping to answer are:

  • How can we help high school counselors communicate and work with colleges more effectively?
  • How do high school counselors want to hear from colleges and receive information?
  • How are high school counselors working with families and helping parents plan for college?
  • What are the issues that students are struggling with when it comes to planning for college? What about high school athletes specifically?
  • How can colleges and universities help high school counselors work with high school student athletes?

Together with ASCA, NAIA, and Campus ESP, we are certain this research will translate into practical and useful guidelines that colleges and universities can quickly put to use when working with high school counselors. Results will be available in a report at the end of September. Also be on the outlook for webinars jointly with our partners and other events around the results of this study in August and September.
