With 15 years of experience in admissions and financial aid on campus as well as more than a decade as a financial aid consultant, Sylvia Ewell offers a wide range of knowledge and expertise. She has consulted with over 30 campuses in her tenure with RNL. Her work has helped institutions increase enrollment, net revenue and academic profile. Her experience encompasses both financial aid and admissions responsibilities as well as retention issues. She specializes in optimizing financial aid packages and balancing financial aid strategies with enrollment targets and revenue concerns.
Previous campus experience
Most recently, Sylvia served as the director of enrollment at Northwood University (TX) overseeing traditional undergraduate, graduate and adult/online admissions as well as retention. She was responsible for bringing all of the enrollment areas under one structure and served as a Designated School Official (DSO). She and her team successfully brought in one of the largest undergraduate enrollment classes at the Texas campus as well as maintaining the largest non-traditional enrollment center in the campus system. Sylvia also worked in admissions at her alma mater, Sam Houston State University (TX).

Sylvia has presented at regional and national conferences on a variety of topics, including strategies for enrollment planning and developing successful financial aid strategies.
During her career in higher education, Sylvia has been a member of several state and national organizations ranging from the American and Texas Associations of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers to the Association of International Educators and the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. She holds a bachelor of arts from Sam Houston State University and a master’s of library science from Texas Woman’s University.
