University of Redlands crowdfunding higher education

The University of Redlands men’s soccer team is a championship-level program. The team was invited to the 10-day eSoccer United Kingdom Player Development Program, and it set a goal to raise funds and lesson the travel and program expenses (approximately $3,660 per participant).

The University of Redlands launched RFund, the university’s official crowdfunding platform, with one pilot project. The Athletics Department director of sports information and men’s soccer coaches contacted the RFund administrator about their soccer project. Together, the athletics staff, coaches, and Samantha launched the soccer project using the ScaleFunder crowdfunding platform.

The project, “Men’s Soccer: Our Journey Across the Pond,” raised a total of $21,668 through 90 gifts.

Coaches, current players, and the Office of Annual Giving worked together to set the expectation for timelines, responsibilities, and campaign strategies. Integrating social media, email, and phone outreach, the project attracted two matching challenges that boosted donor acquisition and project morale.
