Michele Brown, Associate ConsultantMichele Brown is a higher education veteran with 25 years of experience in enrollment management. Her areas of expertise include student recruitment, student retention, plan development, marketing and communications, and campus outreach programs.

Currently, Ms. Brown serves as the director of student recruitment and outreach at Oakton Community College (IL). Among her many responsibilities, she analyzes research, enrollment patterns, and demographic trends to make data-driven decisions to increase student enrollment, persistence, and completion. That analysis guides her development of recruitment plans for outreach as well as recruitment strategies for new, continuing, and former student populations. She also collaborates on Oakton's marketing initiatives for print, electronic, telemarketing, and media sources. In the area of student retention, Ms. Brown works with student affairs administrators in programs related to enrollment services and student success.

Ms. Brown developed Oakton's first ever annual recruitment plan, which resulted in an 8 percent overall increase in new students the first year and a 20 percent increase at its Skokie, Illinois, campus. Her efforts have also helped increase enrollment in African American and Hispanic student populations. Her work in restructuring the campus visit day program resulted in a 30 percent increase in attendance, while she has also spearheaded outreach programs to parents, high school counselors, and other enrollment influencers.

Previously, Ms. Brown served at the Illinois Institute of Technology as the assistant dean of admission, where she oversaw all undergraduate recruitment and related activities for full-time freshman, transfer, and international students. She has also served at the University of Southern California and the University of Illinois at Chicago. 

Presentations, memberships, and education

Ms. Brown has presented at numerous national and regional conferences for NACAC, ACT, IACRAO, IACAC, Ruffalo Noel Levitz, and others. She is a member of AACRAO, NACAC, NASPA, and NAFSA, as well as many Illinois professional organizations. In 2009, she received the Dedication and Integrity Award from NACAC, and has received several awards from IACAC.

Ms. Brown holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Southern California and a bachelor's from Illinois State University.
